So, we went to Devil's Tower. It is the first National Park to be established. It is in Wyoming about an hour away. It is really magnificent. Here we were driving along in the beautiful rolling hillside and all of a sudden in the distance you see this tower looming before you.
It is actually a volcanic plug from umpteen years ago. The Indians believe it to be sacred ground. Myth has it that 7 Indian maidens were out playing in this countryside and a giant bear chased them. They climbed atop this tower that started to grow taller to keep them safe. The bear clawed at the mountain but never reached the maidens. The marks you see on the tower are where the bear clawed it.
It is truly amazing.
